“Being an openly gay athlete at USC has been nothing short of fabulous.”
The Making Of Macklemore | OUT
“Each night is different — you never know,” Macklemore says [of “Same Love”]. “To see 6,500 people put their hands up in support of equality is a beautiful thing. It’s honestly been the highlight of touring.”
Gabriel Gastelum, the photographer behind viral hits discusses his art, getting models naked and what he looks for in a man:
What inspired the concept of this popular photo shoot featuring Parker Hurley?
The concept was actually Parker’s idea. He wanted to do a fun shoot that would capture his actual personality. So what you see on there is exactly how he is. In his undies, surrounded by his artwork, watching cartoons or playing video games. It’s his favorite way to spend his Saturday morning. So we aimed to capture that. Which was perfect, because that is my strongest area: Lifestyle photography.
What’s a typical Saturday morning for you?
Waking up late. Watching some Golden Girls. And it either goes one way or another. I go out and enjoy a beautiful Los Angeles day, or I am working. Weekends for a photographer are always filled with a little work. I am lazy as often as possible. Naps. Naps are good. Cupcake breaks. Good as well. I do love a good hike as well.
Need to Know: Austin’s Trudy’s. The time I stuffed my face during SXSW for Out Magazine:
When wandering the streets of Austin during SXSW, it became clear why the city is considered a foodie’s delight. Food carts fill empty lots. Burger joints with a twist, like Doc’s and Hopdoddy, line South Congress. Then there’s all of the southern style food and barbeque. But the real treasure is Trudy’s, a local chain that offers some of the best Tex Mex in the city. [more]
Nate Silver discusses being a nerd in gay culture:
For me, I think the most important distinguishing characteristic is that I’m independent-minded. I’m sure that being gay encouraged the independent-mindedness, but that same independent-mindedness makes me a little bit skeptical of parts of gay culture, I suppose.
