Awards Seasons GIFs: Get to know the people behind your favorite internet memes

If you’re an Internet user, the chances are good you were transfixed by the GIF-ification of the Golden Globes. (That Tina Fey/Amy Poehler interaction hit the web faster than you could say “photobomb!”) Of course, the chances are good you’re always transfixed by the GIF-ification of awards shows, which raises the question: Where exactly in the Internet ether do these creations come from?

Are there any infamous online GIF-makers who you guys follow, who always gets the GIF first or makes the funniest stuff?

Michael: I know there’s this one guy, his Tumblr name is Imperial Bedrooms and he just watches every episode of every show every week, and tries to put a few GIFs up from there.

[P]unch lines are more like catch phrases that feel like Twitter hashtags, and scenes with celebrations, dances and odd body movements look hilarious when looped endlessly as a GIF.

A proliferation of GIFs is the primary mark of a show’s success in this category. “Parks and Recreation,” “Happy Endings” and “How I Met Your Mother” all have fan-maintained Tumblrs to collect and distribute these homemade files. It’s not surprising that the shows with the most devoted, savviest online audiences are the ones that are sometimes on the bubble of network acceptance; there isn’t a dedicated Tumblr for, say, “NCIS” GIFs.
