Happy Endings Harlem Shake.

A SITCOM PIVOT: HOW “HAPPY ENDINGS” DITCHED ITS BREAKUP PREMISE AND BECAME AMAHZING

Co-showrunner Josh Bycel talks about why the show pivoted away from its original premise:

What allowed the writers to dispose of the premise so quickly—though the Alex/Dave relationship would come up again in both the first and second season finales—was the ensemble itself, especially the surprising comedic abilities of Cuthbert and Knighton.

The story behind Casey Wilson’s “Pennyisms”

“Well, ‘amahzing’ I think is all Casey. I think it was ‘amazing’ [in the script] and she just said, ‘amahzing,’ and we all thought it was funny.” The other Pennysims come from a combination of Wilson’s ad-libbing and the efforts of the writers. “That’s sort of [creator] David [Caspe]’s style. He always likes to do that. Then she would do more, and then we would just sort of write to it more, actually. So that was a combination of both of us, I would say.”

There’s not a lot about Max that’s a stretch for me. I am slovenly, I like sports, I drink too much, I have a gambling problem, and I’m highly competitive. And do I know someone like Max? Yeah. My best gay friends just got married, and in the middle of their big, lavish wedding they were telling us how they were moving to a better school district. I was like, ‘Wow, you’re really mature. In my mind, you guys are always just drinking or at the gym.’

Happy Endings continuity error: Jane and shellfish. During Shershow’s wedding in the season 1 finale, Jane complains to Brad that they didn’t get to have shrimp at their wedding reception implying that she likes to eat it. Meanwhile, in the premiere of season 2, it’s Jane who is allergic to shellfish and Penny ends up stabbing her with an EpiPen to save her life. Just saying.
