Can we talk about the latest episode of Parks and Recreation for a moment? ‘End of the World’ represents some of the show’s finest work to date. It was so well-balanced - at times tugging at that emotional cords yet still landing laugh-out-loud moments.

Two running subplots, the bromance of Jean-Ralphio and Tom and April and Andy’s marriage, have surprised me by how emotionally-charged their stories can be, especially when they feature of two of the zaniest characters (Jean-Ralphio and Andy). 

This should be an Emmy-consideration episode for the show as well as many of the fine supporting players featured this past Thursday. 

So I was watching “Two Parties” and I was struck by that same feeling I had while watching this older episode (see above). What could have been a throwaway episode about bachelor/bachelorette parties turned into something special: a story of male-bonding. Watching Chris Pratt turn Andy’s dreams into reality was truly amazing. But so was that entire subplot - each man living out his perfect bachelor party. Sure, it wasn’t as emotionally charged as some of the show’s other stories but it was so true and honest. And it’s rare to see TV (or movies for that matter) address male relationships so well. Remember when Jean-Ralphio and Tom shared that wonderfully honest moment about their friendship? That’s what happened in this last episode and I’m so happy about how well and consistently this show knocks it out of the park.
