I’ve always thought the live, animated wind maps there were beautiful, one of my favorite science visualizations. But Sandy’s swirling, massive footprint of stormy chaos (in that map view I just captured) is turning the whole eastern half of the country into “Starry Night”!

OMG! :( :( :( Lolo Jones finished 4th in today’s 100m hurdles finals, missing a medal in what was the fastest women’s 100m hurdles in Olympic history. Afterwards, she broke down in an interview on the Today show, saying the media “ripped her to shreds” in a profile that ran Saturday in the New York Times calling her the Anna Kournikova of track.

Bobak FTW! NASA successfully landed the rover Curiosity on Mars today causing the internet to fall in love with Curiosity’s mohawked (sp.) flight director Bobak Ferdowsi. The Atlantic reports that’s Ferdowsi dawns a new hairdo for each mission he’s a part of.
