“His happiness was about a calling. It sounds corny, but that’s what it was. Back in the old days, the world worked this way. People used to have callings that had nothing to do with greed.”
Is Graham Spanier next on the chopping block?
Penn State University President Graham Spanier will either resign or be voted out by the end of today, a source close to the board of trustees told The Express-Times.
An interim president, most likely Executive Vice President and Provost Rodney A. Erickson, will be appointed and a nationwide search for a permanent replacement will begin, according to the source who requested anonymity.
Spanier was made aware in 2002 that a graduate assistant coach had seen former assistant coach Jerry Sandusky allegedly sexually assault a young boy in a shower in the Penn State locker room, according to grand jury testimony. Spanier did not involve police, according to testimony. Spanier has not been charged, but there have been many calls for his resignation.[More]
ESPN covers the dividing tide over Joe Paterno at Penn State:
Michael and Lauren Acquaviva were the rare people interviewed for this story who wanted Paterno held accountable. Lauren grew up in State College and graduated from the school last year, while Michael is a graduate student. The kind of couple who finishes each other’s sentences, the Acquavivas brought their 10-month-old son, Matthias, and a protest sign to the Old Main steps.
“If something like this happened to my son and people knew about it but chose not to do anything, I feel they’d be nearly as responsible as the person who did it,” Lauren Acquaviva said. “What’s Paterno’s motto? Victory with honor?”
“There’s just no honor here,” Michael Acquaviva said.
An open letter to Graham Spanier, President of Penn State
President Spanier,
Your and your administration’s inaction in the Sandusky case is appalling. The fact that nothing was reported to the authorities for years and that you allowed more victims to be assaulted without having conducted an investigation is shameful and a disgrace. This morning, hundreds of thousands of Penn State alumni, faculty, staff, and students have a black eye and are left unable to defend our institution which we assumed was better than this.
You well know the words to the Penn State Alma Mater. Your lack of action has brought shame on all of our hearts.
I’m asking you to resign.[GenoPrimanti] ‘03, ‘08g

I am very much disappointed by my Alma Mater’s inaction in this case. Spanier has had a spotty record - constantly clashing with the student body during my four years there. You can also sign a similar petition at Change.org.

Heads roll at Penn State: Two top officials at the school charged with perjury in the Penn State Jerry Sandusky sex-abuse scandal — Athletic Director Tim Curley and Vice President for Finance and Business Gary Schultz — will step down from their jobs as a result of the scandal, which football coach Joe Paterno answered to on Sunday.
UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
